Secretary's Report

Shirley RedfearnJuly 2008

We are in the throws of a heavy workload in Tennessee. Disaster programs, signup, certification and many other program/administrative duties. When it rains, it pours.

This year in TASCOE will be a busy one also. The TASCOE Board of Directors, Officers and Committee chairs have sought to invite each member to assist in making NASCOE’s 50th year one to remember. It has been stated many times, if we all do a small part the burden will be light. We have gotten a great response on the sale of cookbooks, but are slow to move the Mississippi Tickets or obtain direct donations. I would like to remind everyone to gather door prizes (2 per member) and any funds raised and bring/send them to the TASCOE Convention in Nashville this September. That will allow the board and convention committees to see where we are in fund raising efforts.

And of course, make your plans to attend this event. The national convention is where you can see the unity of state organizations gather for the business of NASCOE, meet many new friends in the agency, and meet the FSA Administrators and other DC personnel. The interaction is one that needs to be experienced.

I would also like to urge you to serve as a director or an officer. TASCOE is a reflection of its membership and leadership. You might have the right idea, so you are needed to step forward to serve. There are many things that TASCOE cannot do, but we can be a “voice” that makes the difference, but only if spoken. We should always support our membership, policy, and generate change for the benefit of membership. Silence is nothing but quiet. Let’s make our voices heard.

TASCOE is financially strong, as of 6-30-08 accounts are as follows:

General Checking $59,495.09
Scholarship MMA $16,438.64
Convention Checking $13,267.72

If anyone would like to serve as Secretary/Treasurer, I would be glad to work with you through the process.

Shirley A. Redfearn,
Secretary/Treasurer 2007/2008
